Choose Your Thoughts

Imagine that everyone walked around with a screen on their heads that showed everything they were thinking of. Everyone would censor their thoughts, because they wouldn't want others to know what they think, or how they think.

Well, as daughters of Christ, we should censor our thoughts anyway. We become what we think. In other words, what we think influences our reality.

In yet other words, what we think shapes the world around us.

In Genesis, we read that God created man in His won image and likeness. As new creations in Christ, we are truly the same as He is. This may sound like blasphemy, but it's the truth. We are like our heavenly Father, and as such, we have whatever we say, and we see whatever we think.

However, because of the way the world works and its growing influence on our lives every minute of every day, it is easier to think the way the world thinks. It is easier to be sad and moody when things are not going our way, than to be cheerful and grateful. It is easier to think angry thoughts when we can't speak our mind, rather than be forgiving. It is easier to think negatively about ourselves than to think that we are the best in the world.

In chapter 4 of his letter to the Philippians, Paul told them that they should fill their minds with good thoughts. This isn't something he said just for saying sake. Positivity is very catching! If you think of yourself as happy, grateful, faithful, and the best at what you do, slowly but surely, reality will catch up with you. If you think of yourself as patient and kind, your physical nature will start to reflect what you think. And what you think of yourself actually determines how others see you (but that is a post for next Saturday).

In essence, Paul is saying that you should choose your thoughts.

Choose what you think about.

Decide to think happy thoughts when you are sad.

Choose to think calm thoughts when you are mad.

Choose to think wealthy thoughts when you're broke.

Remember: what you think is what you are, and even if your reality doesn't reflect your thoughts immediately, keep thinking them, and you will become them. Jesus cursed the fig tree for not having fruit, but the tree didn't die immediately, did it? Be patient, all the while thinking good, pure, lovely, prosperous, successful thoughts, and you will become that. Glory!
